Humanistic Spiritual Values
The spiritual foundation of the Holistic Church for Humanists is ethics. Goodness and empathy are humanistic spiritual values. We all lead busy lives and while striving to comply with our routine and meet our many obligations we tend to forget that our power extends much further than the activities of daily living.
Each of us has an impact on ourselves and the world around us. This impact can be accidental or purposeful.
Being good to yourself enables you to engage with life fully. Being good and empathetic outside of yourself is the difference your life makes in the larger scheme of things.
Power comes with pitfalls and temptations. Self-destructive behaviors require little effort. Not caring about people and the world at large is fast and easy. Both, have short-term benefits and long-term liabilities.
The Holistic Church for Humanists regularly reminds its members that the human lifespan is relatively long. Short-term benefits are fleeting but we have to live with the consequences of our choices long-term. It’s wiser to skip the joys of laziness and act with the long-term outcomes in mind than to look back with regrets and have to pay old bills with accrued interest and inherent pain or shame.
Goodness and empathy are spiritual values. Reason helps us distinguish right from wrong and live by our values. You are in charge: LIVE INTENTIONALLY!
